Ro 51 is a gene product that has been identified as a novel regulator of cellular proliferation. Ro 51 is encoded by the ROGDI gene and is expressed in a variety of cell types, including neurons, hepatocytes, and T cells. The role of Ro51 in carcinogenesis is not yet clear. Ro51 modulates the expression of various genes involved in immune responses and inflammation. It may also contribute to the pathogenesis of chronic pain and diabetic neuropathy. It has been shown to be an agonist for several G-protein coupled receptors, including the opioid receptor. In addition, Ro51 can act synergistically with other compounds to enhance their potency.
