CD2 Antibody (I/35A) Summary

Immunogen
Sheep T cell blasts
Specificity
NB100-65316 recognizes ovine CD2, a 55kD cell surface antigen. Ovine CD2 is expressed by peripheral T cells expressing CD4 or CD8, but not by the CD4/CD8 negative subset, which comprises approximately 20% of cells in peripheral blood. In the thymus most cells express low levels of CD2. In immunohistochemical studies tissue macrophages in lymph nodes are found to be CD2 +ve. NB100-65316 blocks sheep autologous E rosetting.

Background

CD2 is a surface antigen of the human T lymphocyte lineage that is expressed on all peripheral blood T cells. It is one of the earliest T cell markers, being present on more than 95% of thymocytes; it is also found on some natural killer cells but not on B lymphocytes. CD2 interacts with lymphocyte function associated antigen (LFA3) and CD48/BCM1 to mediate adhesion between T cells and other cell types. CD2 is implicated in the triggering of T cells, the cytoplasmic domain is implicated in the signaling function. It is useful for the identification of lymphomas and leukemias of T cell origin.
