Background
CERT (GPBP) is a kinase that phosphorylates the alpha 3 chain of type IV collagen, also known as the Goodpasture antigen, on serine and threonine residues. One isoform of CERT has been shown to mediate intracellular trafficking of ceramides from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus in a non-vesicular manner. Alternate designations for CERT include Goodpasture antigen-binding protein, GPBP, collagen type IV alpha-3-binding protein, StAR-related lipid transfer protein 11, StARD11, START domain-containing protein 11, COL4A3BP, STARD11, CERTL, and FLJ20597.
