Background
PKD2, a PKD type protein kinase, contains a N-terminal hydrophobic domain predicted to be a transmembrane region, two cysteine-rich motifs that form zinc finger-like repeats, a pleckstrin homology domain, and a putative kinase domain containing the ATP-binding consensus sequence. PKD2 has been shown to be widely expressed in human tissues. ESTs have been isolated from numerous tissue libraries, including normal breast, spleen, thymus and uterus and cancerous cervix, esophagus, liver and ovary. Caution: The symbol PKD2 is also used for the Polycystic Kidney Disease 2 gene, an ion channel on chromosome 4.
